What is reflection of sound (echo) ?

Reflection of sound:
When Sound is incident on the surface of the medium it bounces back into first medium .This phenomenon is called echo or reflection of sound.
The sensation of sound persists in our brain for about 0.1s.To hear clear echo, the time interval between our sound and the reflected sound must be at least 0.1 s.If we consider speed of sound 340ms at the normal temperature in air ,we will hear echo after 0.1 s. Echoes may be heard more than once due successive or multiple reflection.

What is Intensity of Sound?

Intensity:
Sound energy passing per second through a unit area held perpendicular to the direction of propagation of sound waves is called intensity of sound.
Explanation:
Intensity is a physical quantity and can be measured accurately .The unit of intensity of sound is watt per square metre.

What is Sound Waves?

Sound Waves:
Like other waves, sound is also produced by vibrating bodies. Due to vibrations of bodies the air around them also vibrates and the air vibration produce sensation of sound in our ear.
For Example:
In a guitar , sound is produced due to vibration of its strings.
Our voice results from the vocal chords . Human Heart beats and vibration of other organs like lungs also produce sound waves. Doctors use stethoscope to hear sound.

What Is Ripple Tank?

Ripple Tank:
Ripple Tank Is a device to produce water waves and to study their characteristics.

Explanation Of Ripple Tank:
The apparatus consist of a rectangular tray having glass bottom and is placed nearly half metre above the surface of a table . Waves can prodused on the surface of water present in the tray by means of a vibrator (paddle).

What Is Wave?

Wave:
The Disturbance In the medium Is Called Wave.

Types Of Wave:
1.Mechanical Waves:
Waves which require any medium for their propagation are called mechanical waves. e.g (water waves, sound waves)

2.Electromagnetic Waves:
Waves which do not require any medium for their propagation are called electromagnetic waves.

What Is Simple Hormonic Motion?

Simple Hormonic Motion:
Simple Hormonic Motion (SHM) is to and fro oscillatory motion in which acceleration of the body is directly proportional to the displacement of the body from the mean position and is always directed towards the mean position .

Features Of SHM:
i. A body excuting SHM always vibrates about fixed position .
ii. Its acceleration is always directed towards mean position .
iii. Its velocity is Maximum at the mean position and zero at extreme positions.
